Roku Setup & Troubleshooting

Roku Device Setup

Universal Remote works with all Roku devices: Roku TV (TCL, Hisense, Sharp), Streaming Stick, Express, Ultra, and Streambar.

How to Connect

  1. Ensure your iPhone and Roku are on the same WiFi network
  2. Open Universal Remote — your Roku device appears automatically
  3. Tap to connect — no PIN needed! Roku devices connect instantly
  4. Start controlling your Roku with touchpad, keyboard, and app launcher

Lost Your Roku Remote?

If you've lost your Roku remote, Universal Remote is the perfect solution — as long as your Roku is connected to WiFi, you can control it entirely from your iPhone. No physical remote needed.

If your Roku is NOT connected to WiFi (and you have no remote to set it up):

  1. Try connecting your Roku to an ethernet cable if available
  2. For Roku TV: use the physical buttons on the TV to navigate to WiFi settings
  3. For streaming devices: you may need a replacement remote to complete initial WiFi setup

Common Issues

Roku not found

  • Roku uses port 8060 — some networks block this port. Check router firewall settings
  • Make sure both devices are on the same WiFi (not a guest network)
  • Restart your Roku: Settings → System → System restart
  • Try entering the Roku's IP address manually: Settings → Network → About

Commands delayed or unresponsive

  • Check WiFi signal strength on your Roku: Settings → Network → About → Signal strength
  • Move your Roku closer to your WiFi router
  • Restart your Roku device
