Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 13, 2026 · Effective: April 13, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Universal Remote ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Universal Remote application ("App") and the website at universaltv.app ("Website"). By using our App or Website, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Account Information: We do not require you to create an account. The App uses anonymous identifiers for subscription management through RevenueCat.
  • Support Requests: If you contact us at support@universaltv.app, we collect your email address and the content of your message to respond to your inquiry.
  • Diagnostic Reports: If you choose to send a diagnostic report from within the App, it includes your device model, iOS version, app version, paired device information, and premium status. This is only sent when you explicitly initiate it.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Analytics Data: We use Firebase Analytics and Meta (Facebook) SDK to collect anonymized usage data including app launches, feature usage patterns, screen views, and crash reports. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally.
  • Subscription Data: RevenueCat processes subscription transactions through Apple's App Store. We receive anonymized transaction status and entitlement information. We do not receive or store your payment card details.
  • Device Information: We may collect device type, operating system version, and app version for crash reporting and compatibility purposes.

1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

  • TV Viewing Data: We do not track, record, or monitor what you watch on your TV. All remote control commands are sent directly between your iPhone and your TV over your local WiFi network and never pass through our servers.
  • Local Network Data: We do not transmit any information about your home network, connected devices, or TV settings to our servers.
  • Location Data: We do not collect your geographic location.
  • Contacts or Personal Files: We do not access your contacts, calendar, photos (except when you explicitly choose to cast media to your TV), or other personal files.

2. How We Use Information

  • App Functionality: To connect to and control your Smart TV over your local WiFi network.
  • Analytics: To understand how the App is used in aggregate, identify popular features, and improve the user experience.
  • Crash Reporting: To identify and fix bugs and stability issues.
  • Subscription Management: To verify your subscription status and provide access to premium features.
  • Customer Support: To respond to your support requests and diagnostic reports.
  • Advertising Attribution: Meta SDK is used for advertising attribution to measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns. This may involve sharing anonymized device identifiers with Meta.

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the following categories of service providers:

  • Firebase (Google): Analytics, crash reporting, remote configuration, and cloud messaging. Google's privacy policy applies to data processed by Firebase.
  • RevenueCat: Subscription and in-app purchase management. RevenueCat processes anonymized transaction data.
  • Meta (Facebook): Advertising attribution and app event analytics. Meta's data policy applies to data processed by their SDK.
  • Apple: App Store subscription processing and app distribution. Apple's privacy policy applies.

4. Data Retention

Analytics data is retained in aggregate form for up to 24 months. Crash reports are retained for up to 90 days. Support email correspondence is retained for up to 12 months after resolution. Subscription data is retained by RevenueCat for the duration of your subscription plus 90 days after cancellation.

5. Data Security

All communication between your iPhone and your TV occurs over your local WiFi network using platform-appropriate security protocols (TLS encryption for Android TV, SSL for Samsung, etc.). We implement industry-standard security measures to protect any data transmitted to our service providers. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Data Portability: You may request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Right to Object: You may object to processing based on legitimate interest.
  • Supervisory Authority: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13 years of age (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us at support@universaltv.app and we will promptly delete it.

8. International Data Transfers

Our service providers (Firebase, RevenueCat, Meta) may process data in countries outside your country of residence. These transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses and the service providers' own data protection commitments.

9. Third-Party Links

The App and Website may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
