Getting Started with Universal Remote

Welcome to Universal Remote

Universal Remote turns your iPhone into a powerful TV remote control. This guide will help you get set up and connected to your Smart TV in minutes.

Requirements

  • iPhone running iOS 17 or later
  • A Smart TV connected to WiFi (Samsung, LG, Roku, Android TV, Apple TV, Fire TV, Vizio, Sony, Philips, Panasonic, or Hisense)
  • Both your iPhone and TV must be on the same WiFi network

Step 1: Download the App

Download Universal Remote from the App Store. The app is free to download with optional premium subscription for advanced features.

Step 2: Allow Network Access

When you first open the app, iOS will ask permission to find and connect to devices on your local network. Tap "Allow" — this is required for the app to discover your TV.

Step 3: Turn On Your TV

Make sure your Smart TV is powered on and connected to the same WiFi network as your iPhone. The TV should be fully booted (past the startup screen).

Step 4: Connect to Your TV

The app automatically scans your network for compatible TVs. When your TV appears in the list, tap it to connect. Depending on your TV brand:

  • Samsung & LG: Accept the connection prompt on your TV screen
  • Android TV, Sony, Philips: Enter the PIN code shown on your TV
  • Apple TV: Enter the 4-digit code shown on screen
  • Roku: Connects instantly — no PIN needed
  • Fire TV & Vizio: Tap to connect, accept if prompted

Step 5: Start Controlling

Once connected, you have full control of your TV! Use the touchpad to navigate, the keyboard to type, and the app launcher to open your favorite streaming apps.

Remote Control Modes

  • Touchpad Mode: Swipe to navigate your TV's interface
  • D-Pad Mode: Classic directional buttons for precise navigation
